Canada's The Astral Prophets have been around since 2019 and hail from Calgary, Alberta. Created from the ashes of the power/folk metal band Scythia, the band initially consisted of Terry Savage (bass), AJ Bergin (guitar), and Celine Derval (drums/vocals). Straying away from their older style, the trio started writing songs and taking inspiration from the bands like Clutch, Grand Magus, and Guns N'Roses, among others, to form a sound affectionately known around the rehearsal space as Power Groove. Without boxing the music into certain parameters, the songs borrow aspects from multiple different subgenres, including but not limited to: power metal, doom metal, stoner metal, groove metal and traditional hard rock.
In 2020, the trio was rounded out by the addition of Brandon McNeil (guitar, ex-Illyrian). Shortly after, the world went on pause and an indefinite hiatus, but the band returned to work in 2021, releasing Lazerwitch, a three-song EP, before Derval departed the group. Staci Allen (vocals) and Jordan Tworek (drums, ex-Mars & Venus) were brought in to replace Derval and the current iteration of The Astral Prophets took form.
Despite the pandemic break and member changes, the band has played through the Calgary circuit with stops at The Blind Beggar (RIP), The Rec Room, and Dickens, among others.
The band released their sophomore EP "Anywhere But Here" in March 2023 while also playing their first major festival at The Electric Highway in the same month.
Shortly after "Anywhere But Here", Brandon departed the band and was replaced by Everett Brodie on guitars.
With a a solid new lineup, The Astral Prophets look forward to recording and performing their first full length album.
